J’espère que vous allez bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique du dernier roman de mon auteure préférée : Alice Winters. Il s’agit du premier tome dans sa nouvelle série (qui devrait être une trilogie) intitulée Winsford Shifters. Résumé :

Rowan

I’m no stranger to prejudice from humans, but it’s different when Rowan comes into my life. Though I shouldn’t let myself be distracted, I’m captivated by him. At first, he’s stiff, fighting to keep his misconstrued beliefs intact, but as I break down the wall he’s created, I’m able to show him a place among the fun chaos of my pack. After one of my pack goes missing, it leaves Rowan and me racing to bring them home, but the only way we’re going to survive this is if Rowan learns to accept the bond that’s growing between us—a bond that could give us the strength to put aside our reservations and give in to what both of us want.

FR- Alors alors… alors je dois dire que je ne savais pas trop à quoi m’attendre étant donné que je n’ai pas aimé la dernière série de l’auteure. J’avais peur que la magie soit passée et que je n’aime pas la direction que prendrait Alice Winters dans ses futurs écrits. J’ai donc commencé ce roman sans vraiment rien en attendre de particulier, tout en espérant à la fois que j’aillais aimais.

Et pour mon plus grand bonheur, ça a été le cas. J’ai énormément aimé ce roman. J’ai retrouvé ce que j’avais aimé dans les premiers romans de l’auteure et j’ai passé un excellent moment de lecture.

Tout d’abord, l’univers. Alice Winters s’essaye aux shifters et elle s’en sort plutôt bien. N’étant pas une experte en la matière, je peux vous dire que j’ai énormément aimé l’univers qu’elle nous présente et la mythologie qui va avec. Nous n’avons pas vraiment d’idée d’où viennent les shifters ni de comment une personne peut naitre shifters de parents humains, mais ça passe. Dans ce monde, les shifters sont connus et identifiés et considérés comme des citizens de seconde zone. J’ai d’ailleurs beaucoup aimé la façon dont la vision de Rowan à ce sujet va doucement changement au fil du roman. J’ai aimé la façon dont Quinn va protéger sa meute et créer un havre de paix pour lui et les siens.

Quinn et Rowan sont clairement des personnages typiques d’Alice Winters. On retrouve son schéma habituel d’un homme en apparence plus fragile qui sera « protégé » par un autre plus fort. Mais comme avec Leland, Quinn est loin d’être sans défense. J’ai d’ailleurs beaucoup aimé que les rôles soient inversés à plusieurs moments du roman et qu’il soit celui à même de protéger Rowan et sa meute.
Rowan est un personnage qui m’a surprise (oui traitez moi d’innocente, mais je ne l’avais pas vu venir…) J’ai beaucoup aimé sa vulnérabilité et sa lutte interne pour accepter cette part de lui contre laquelle on l’avait forcé à se battre depuis tout petit.
J’ai aimé le parallèle avec l’homosexualité ou le fait d’être tout simplement différent qu’on ne peut s’empêcher de faire.

La relation entre Quinn et Rowan est vraiment sympa et le coté shifter est présent sans être trop prenant. J’ai adoré les scenes où ils sont sur leurs formes animales. Il ya des moments très drôles comme toujours dans les romans de l’auteure et on sent qu’elle a bien étudié le comportement des différents animaux.

Le rythme du roman est très agréable, on en découvre sur les shifters tout en avançant dans l’intrigue et si la fin n’est pas un cliffhanger, l’auteure a déjà annoncé la sortie prochaine du tome 2 et je lui en suis reconnaissante!!!

En résumé, un très bon roman d’Alice Winters. Des personnages attachantes drôles et touchants, une intrigue passionnante et prenante, un univers élaboré qu’on ne fait que découvrir et qu’on souhaite encore approfondir.. Une série à découvrir de toute urgence.

ENG– So well well well… well I have to say I wasn’t sure what to expect given that I didn’t like the author’s last series. I was afraid the magic had passed and that I didn’t like the direction Alice Winters would take in her future writings. So I started this novel without really expecting anything in particular, while at the same time hoping that I was going to love it.

And to my greatest happiness, it was. I really liked this novel. I rediscovered what I had liked in the author’s first novels and I had a great time reading.

First of all, the universe. Alice Winters tries her hand at shifters and she’s doing pretty well. Not being an expert in the matter, I can tell you that I really liked the universe she presents to us and the mythology that goes with it. We don’t really have a clue where shifters come from or how a person can be born shifters to human parents, but it doesn’t really matters. In this world, shifters are known and identified and considered second-class citizens. I really liked the way Rowan’s vision on this subject slowly changes over the course of the novel. I liked the way Quinn will protect his pack and create a safe haven for him and his people.

Quinn and Rowan are clearly typical Alice Winters’ characters. We find her usual pattern of an apparently more fragile man who will be « protected » by a stronger one. But as with Leland, Quinn is far from helpless. I also really liked that the roles were reversed at several points in the novel and that he was able to protect Rowan and his pack.
Rowan is a character that surprised me (yes, call me innocent, but I hadn’t seen it coming …) I really liked his vulnerability and his internal struggle to accept this part of him which he was forced to fight against since he was little.
I liked the parallel with homosexuality or just being different that you can’t help but make.

The relationship between Quinn and Rowan is really nice and the shifter side is present without being too strong. I loved the scenes where they are on their animal forms. There are some very funny moments as always in the author’s novels and we feel that she has studied the behavior of different animals well.

The rhythm of the novel is very pleasant, we discoverthe shifters universe while advancing in the plot and if the end is not a cliffhanger, the author has already announced the upcoming release of volume 2 and I am grateful to her for it. !!!

In short, a very good novel by Alice Winters. Endearing, funny and touching characters, a fascinating and gripping plot, an elaborate universe that we are only discovering and that we wish to deepen further. A series to be discovered without delay.
