Salut mes p’tits chats!
Hiro
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death… the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense. Still, the more I’m around Maddox, the more I realize that beneath that surly exterior is a kind and caring man who will do anything to help.
Maddox
When another man dies, I know we have a serial killer on our hands—the same murderer who has remained elusive for a year and a half. To add to my frustration, I keep running into Hiro at crime scenes only to hear him claim that he can talk to ghosts. The words of the dead could lead us to the serial killer and even tell us who is next, but ghosts? There’s no such thing as ghosts. Hiro is determined and charming, and no matter what I do, I can’t stop letting him get involved. He’s definitely snagged my attention, but when he nearly winds up dead, I know he’s getting closer to the truth—and if I don’t do something soon, he might be next.
FR- Alors alors ….
ENG – So well well well… well as often I throw myself on the novels of Alice Winters as soon as they are proposed in ARC and I must say that I was eager to read this novel because of the first name of one of the main characters. I am very sensitive to first names and a character named Hiro, inevitably I want to read his story.
I have to say that while I mostly like Alice Winters’ novels, there are a couple of the author’s series that I didn’t like more than that. And I always start new novels without really knowing if I’m going to join or not. Conclusion: I loved it.
I really liked this novel which I devoured in a few days. I found that the author calmed the game a bit and that her characters were a little less crazy than these last characters. Basically, all the criticisms that I could make to novels that I did not like are corrected in this one.
Hiro’s character is just awesome. I really liked that he could see the ghosts and help them get to the other side. It made me think of the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones and I admit that I am super happy to find this MM version again.
I liked that Hiro had a difficult past but that he was a very positive and sunny person. I really liked the family he built for himself, his brother Nikolàs is very enigmatic and I hope to discover a little more about him in the next volumes. I loved his phantom buddies, thanks to which we are entitled to several hilarious scenes. I loved Reggie and Natalie, I also hope to learn more about Nathalie and her relationship with Hiro (sounds too simple to be just coincidence.)
Hiro is an inherently good character. He’s also very funny and I really liked his relationship with Maddox.
Maddox, at first glance, is the alpha male par excellence, he is grumpy, he is serious and involved in his work. It will of course open up little by little in contact with Hiro. We feel that he also has a rather complicated past and I admit that I would like to know more about his family. I really liked his relationship with his nephews and his relationship with his brother Ben.
I really liked the survey which I found well conducted and catchy. You really wonder who is the culprit and I found that it was not far-fetched. I found the inquiry to romance ratio to be well proportioned, which makes reading really enjoyable.
In short, a really interesting first volume which suggests an excellent series in line with the author’s first series. Funny and endearing characters. And as always with Alice Winters: humor and cute animals (special mention for Spite). A series that I can not wait to have the continuation.
