Falcon's Favor (Broken Gear #4) de Dana Fraedrich

Comment allez vous? Pour ma part ça va plutot bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui avec la chronique d’un roman qui m’a été proposé par Book Sirens que je tiens d’ailleurs à remercier. S’il est annoncé comme un tome 4, il s’agit plutot d’un tome compagnon dans l’univers fantasy queer de la série Broken Gear. Je n’ai pas lu les tomes précédents et ça ne m’a pas géné dans ma lecture. Il s’agit dont de Falcon’s Favor de Dana Fraedrich publié chez Goat Song Publishing. Résumé :

Falcon Smoke’s image graces posters all over the city, touting him as the shining new hope for Springhaven. Yet every time Falcon sees those pictures of himself he feels like more of a sham. He tries to lead by example as a good and just Enforcer, but it’s hard to do right within a broken system. The cost of his fame has forced Falcon to leave his family home and move into a small house he can only afford with the help of another young gent by the name of Keene.

A handsome and self-confident man, Keene fills their new home with wonderful aromas of his delicious tea blends and the scrumptious meals he makes for his catering clients. Seeing Falcon’s need to lie low, Keene does his best to ensure his housemate feels safe, warm, and protected.

Fate, however, is not so kind. The Enforcer order is undergoing reform and many are calling for Falcon to drive their initiatives. Thankfully, Falcon has some much-deserved leave time coming up, and he plans to take full advantage of it by spending time with his handsome housemate. Unfortunately, before they can kick off their vacation, their home is robbed.

Knowing that involving the Enforcers means condemning the perpetrators to a lifetime of imprisonment and torture, Falcon and Keene decide to solve the case themselves. While Falcon would prefer to handle this matter alone, Keene refuses to be left out. The two grow closer throughout the investigation, with sparks of romance igniting between them. But when someone notifies the Enforcers of the crime, Falcon is forced to choose where he’ll throw the considerable weight of his support.

FR- Alors alors… alors il s’agit là d’un cosy mystery « fantasy » que j’ai beaucoup aimé. L’univers se déroule dans une ere victorienne revisitée et ce quatrième tome intervient après plusieurs évènements tragiques et importants. Pour autant, même sans avoir lu les tomes précédents on entre rapidement dans l’univers et dans l’action et on se concentre principalement sur le personnage de Falcon.

Le roman est entièrement de son point de vue, ce qui nous permet de bien assimiler les évènements et le contexte. J’ai vraiment passé un très bon moment de lecture avec ce roman qui nous entraine dans la ville de Springhaven qui se remet doucement de ses blessures. Falcon appartient à l’ordre des Enforcers qui n’ont pas vraiment bonne réputation et va tout faire pour faire changer les choses.

C’est un personnage vraiment attachants. J’ai beaucoup aimé le voir assumer ses actes même s’il se retrouve aujourd’hui dans une situation compliquée. C’était intéressant de le voir découvrir la vie de tous les jours sans domestiques pour faire des taches basiques comme faire à manger ou laver son linge.

Face à lui, le personnage de Keene est touchant dans son ouverture aux autres, sa gentillesse et son coté pragmatique. J’ai adoré les voir s’ouvrir l’un à l’autre et se séduire doucement. J’ai beaucoup aimé l’univers dépeint par l’auteure. Les personnages secondaires apportent beaucoup à l’histoire et laissent supposer une saga très bien maitrisée et à l’univers fourni.

L’enquête est bien menée, elle prend son temps pour mener à un dénouement à la hauteur du genre. Je me suis laissée entrainer par la plume de l’auteure, ses personnages et son univers.

Un roman plus que sympathique que je vous conseille fortement.

ENG- So well well well… well this is a cozy « fantasy » mystery that I really liked. The universe takes place in a revisited Victorian era and this fourth volume comes after several tragic and important events. However, even without having read the previous volumes, we quickly enter the universe and the action and we mainly focus on the character of Falcon.

The novel is entirely from his point of view, which allows us to assimilate the events and the context. I really had a great time reading this novel which takes us to the town of Springhaven which is slowly recovering from its injuries. Falcon belongs to the order of Enforcers who do not really have a good reputation and will do anything to change things.

He’s a really endearing character. I really liked seeing him take responsibility for his actions even if he finds himself in a complicated situation today. It was interesting to watch him discover everyday life without servants to do basic tasks like cooking or washing clothes.

Facing him, the character of Keene is touching in his openness to others, his kindness and his pragmatic side. I loved watching them open up to each other and gently seduce each other. I really liked the universe depicted by the author. The secondary characters bring a lot to the story and suggest a very well-mastered saga and a rich universe.

The investigation is well conducted, it takes its time to lead to an outcome worthy of the genre. I let myself be carried away by the pen of the author, her characters and her universe.

A more than pleasant novel that I strongly recommend.
