J’espère que vous allez bien. Pour ma part ça va plutot bien, je croise les doigts mais pour l’instant, je passe entre les mailles du filet pour le covid . J’avoue que le fait de ne pas avoir d’enfant aide pas mal. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique d’un roman que je ne pouvais pas ne pas lire étant donné que le titre de la série est Single Dads Club. Il s’agit d’un roman de Aj Truman en auto édition intitulé The Falcon and the Foe. Résumé :

Two single dads. One huge grudge. And one tiny tent.

It’s hard enough balancing two jobs with raising my son solo. Forget dating. I barely have time for laundry.

But when my son’s scouting troop The Falcons needed a co-scout leader, I couldn’t say no. There’s just one ginormous problem: the other scout leader Russ.

To all other parents, he’s #DadGoals, Mr. Sexy Widower who lords over the drop off line.

To me? He’s the bane of my picket-fenced existence – stuck up, anal (not in the fun way), and definitely the person who got me booted from the Parent Teacher Association. I can’t let him wrest control of The Falcons and have history repeat itself – no matter how hot he looks in his khaki uniform.

Thing is, the more we work together, the more I glimpse the caring man lurking under the cold exterior. Maybe he isn’t the completely wretched human being I thought.

We’d both sworn off romance to focus on fatherhood, and nothing’s going to change that, not even sharing a too-small tent in the wilderness.

Right?

FR- Alors alors … alors j’avais vraiment hâte de lire ce roman qui pourtant est resté dormir dans ma PAL un petit moment. Moi qui adore les Single dads, j’avais hâte de le lire.

C’était le premier roman de l’auteure que je lisais et je dois dire que je suis restée un peu sur ma faim. C’était sympa. Je ne peux pas dire l’inverse. Mais c’est clairement un roman que je ne relirai pas.

Je suis assez partagée sur les personnages. Au premier abord, Cal n’est pas très engageant. Ok il est père célibataire mais il donne l’impression d’être un peu négligeant et je m’en foutiste. Il y a plein de choses qu’il fait mal et il met du temps à réaliser que ses actions se reflètent en mal sur son fils. Russ quand à lui est super guindé. Il semble assez prétentieux et hautain, ce qui ne donne pas forcément envie de suivre ces deux personnages.

Heureusement on réalise assez vite que ce n’est qu’une impression et qu’il y a plus derrière ces deux hommes à qui la vie n’a pas vraiment fait de cadeau. La relation entre les deux hommes est plutot bien amenée. On part d’un ennemies to lovers et bien que n’étant pas une spécialiste de ce trope j’ai plutot aimé la façon dont les deux hommes vont se rapprocher.

On sent bien la tension sexuelle entre les deux et j’ai trouvé cet aspect vraiment sympa.

J’ai aimé que les enfants soient en primaire et non pas des enfants en bas âge comme c’est souvent le cas dans les single dads.

La plume de l’auteure est vraiment symap et il y a énormément d’humour. Cal est très drôle et j’ai rigolé plus d’une fois. L’histoire est chouette. J’ai trouvé original le fait que les personnages soient des scouts et qu’on en apprennent plus sur cet univers.

J’ai beaucoup aimé le groupe d’amis de Cal et j’avoue que je lirai surement les autres tomes . Pour autant ce n’est pas un roman qui restera dans les annales.

En résumé, un roman plutot sympa, qui vous fera passer un bon moment, mais sans plus.

ENG- So well well well… well I was really looking forward to reading this novel which nevertheless remained sleeping in my PAL for a little while. I who love Single dads, I was eager to read it.

It was the first novel by the author that I read and I must say that I remained a little unsatisfied. It was nice. I can’t say the opposite. But it is clearly a novel that I will not read again.

I’m pretty split on the characters. At first glance, Cal is not very engaging. Ok he is a single father but he gives the impression of being a little careless and I don’t care. There are plenty of things he does wrong and he takes a long time to realize that his actions reflect badly on his son. Russ himself is super stuffy. He seems quite pretentious and haughty, which does not necessarily make you want to follow these two characters.

Fortunately, we quickly realize that this is only an impression and that there is more behind these two men to whom life has not really given a gift. The relationship between the two men is quite good. We start from an enemy to lovers and although not a specialist in this trope I rather liked the way the two men will get closer.

We feel the sexual tension between the two and I found this aspect really nice.

I liked that the children were in primary school and not toddlers as is often the case with single dads.

The pen of the author is really nice and there is a lot of humor. Cal is very funny and I laughed more than once. The story is nice. I found original the fact that the characters are scouts and that we learn more about this universe.

I really liked Cal’s group of friends and I must admit that I will surely read the other volumes. However, this is not a novel that will go down in history.

In summary, a rather nice novel, which will make you have a good time, but nothing more.
