The Christmas Deal de Keira Andrews

Salut tout le monde, c’est Loïc et on se retrouve, après une très longue absence de ma part pour la revue d’une lecture VO. Il s’agit de The Christmas Deal de Keira Andrews, qui chaque année à cette période nous en propose ne. Cette année, l’auteur nous propose une histoire du genre «Fake Boyfriends », une thématique que j’apprécie, vous le savez, tout particulièrement.

FR – Avec The Christmas Deal, on suit l’histoire de Logan, un trentenaire, veuf et ancien marine, qui suite au décès de sa femme se retrouve avec la garde de Connor, un adolescent plutôt rebelle et de Seth, lui aussi trentenaire qui a du mal à tourner la page de sa rupture récente. Les deux hommes, tous les deux dans une situation précaire, l’un se retrouvant sans travail ni domicile et l’autre à la recherche d’une famille parfaite pour obtenir une promotion, vont alors décider de jouer la comédie en se faisant passer pour un couple de futurs mariés.

Je vais commencer par le constat le plus important, The Christmas Deal est une excellente romance, mais elle loupe complètement le coche de l’esprit des fêtes de fin d’année pour en faire une romance de Noël. C’est bien simple, l’histoire pourrait prendre place à Pâques ou pendant les vacances d’été que l’on verrait peu de différence. On a le droit à quelques décorations de Noël, une scène de luges et une baignade dans un lac gelé, et op, c’est fini pour le côté Noël.

Est-ce que c’est gênant pour l’histoire ? Non pas du tout. Par contre, les personnes cherchant réellement une romance de Noël n’y vont vraiment pas y trouver leur compte.

Par contre, The Christmas Deal est un bon roman que je ne peux que conseiller aux amateurs de Fake Boyfriends ou à ceux qui apprécient les histoires avec des hommes découvrant sur le tard leur sexualité.

J’ai beaucoup aimé la progression du roman et de la romance entre Logan et Seth. Il faut quasiment attendre d’arriver à la moitié du bouquin pour y trouver une scène de sexe. Toute la première partie du livre étant centré sur la découverte mutuelle des deux hommes et de leur passé.

J’ai aimé le côté « no drama » du titre, il n’y a pas de grandes crises ou de grosses difficultés, de méchants exes qui réapparaissent. Tout n’est pas rose et les deux hommes vont rencontrer quelques petites difficultés sur le chemin les menant à leur happy ending, mais il n’y a de réels drames. Et pour le coup, c’est hyper agréable, car on est dans un récit dans lequel on peut réellement se plonger sans se demander quelle énième péripétie va-t-il leur arriver ou quelle merde va encore leur tomber sur la gueule. Non The Christmas Deal se laisse lire tout en douceur et c’est en cela qu’on pourrait presque y trouver le côté romance de Noël. C’est un livre qui doit être agréable à lire devant sa cheminée avec un plaid et un mug de chocolat chaud.

Au final, autre que le manque d’esprit de Noël, le seul point négatif de The Christmas Deal est pour moi le côté trop « no homo » de Logan. Dès le début on a le droit a, les femmes c’est pour l’amour, les mecs que pour le cul et comme je fais que ça bah je ne suis pas pd. Ça m’a un peu agacé. Après je suis certains qu’il existe encore des personnes qui pensent la même chose, mais bon j’avais un peu de mal à rapprocher ce type de penser de Logan.

Avec The Christmas Deal, Keira Andrews, nous propose, une petite histoire fort sympathique, qui se lit extrêmement bien et vite. On finit le titre avec le sourire et un peu réchauffé, mais malheureusement, l’auteur loupe complètement son coup en voulant offrir une romance de Noël à ses lecteurs.

I will start with the most important thing, The Christmas Deal is an excellent romance, but it lacks the spirit of Christmas and New Year to make it a Christmas romance. It’s quite simple, the story could take place at Easter or during the summer holidays that we would see little difference. We have some Christmas decorations, a sled scene and a swim in a frozen lake, and it’s all for the Christmas side.

Is it embarrassing for the story? Not at all. On the other hand, people really looking for a Christmas romance are really not going to find their account.

By cons, The Christmas Deal is a good novel that I can only advise fans of Fake Boyfriends or thosewho appreciate the stories with men discovering their sexuality late.

I really liked the progress of the novel and the romance between Logan and Seth. It is almost necessary to wait until halfway through the book to find a sex scene. The first part of the book is centered on the mutual discovery of the two men and their past.

I liked the « no drama » side of the title, there are no big crises or big difficulties, bad exes that reappear. All is not rosy and the two men will encounter some small difficulties on the way to their happy ending, but there are real dramas. And for once, it’s super nice, because we are in a story in which we can really plunge without wondering what umpteenth incident will happen to them or what shit will still fall on their face. No, The Christmas Deal can be read very softly and this is where you could almost find the romance side of Christmas. It is a book that must be pleasant to read in front of the fireplace with plaid and a mug of hot chocolate.

In the end, other than the lack of Christmas spirit, the only negative point of The Christmas Deal is for me the side too « no homo » Logan. From the beginning, we have the right to, women are for love, the guys for the ass and as I do that well I’m not gay. It annoyed me a bit. After I’m sure there are still people who think the same thing, but I had a little trouble getting closer to this type of thinking of Logan.

With The Christmas Deal, Keira Andrews offers us, a very nice little story, which reads extremely well and quickly. We end the title with a smile and a little warm, but unfortunately, the author completely loupe his shot by wanting to offer a Christmas romance to its readers.
