Above and Beyond ( Twist of Fate #4) de Lucy Lennox et Sloane Kennedy

J’espère que vous allez bien. Pour ma part, ça va plutôt bien. Mon passage chez le coiffeur m’a fait un bien fou^^ comme quoi, parfois ça tient à pas grand chose. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique du quatrième tome de la série Twist of Fate de Lucy Lennox et Sloane Kennedy. (Chronique du tome 1 ici , du tome 2 ici et du tome 3 ici ) qui s’intitule Above and Beyond:

Lucky

Two years ago I humiliated myself by declaring my love to an older man who clearly didn’t share my feelings. And that’s fine. One day Zach will come around. Meanwhile, I’ve built a life for myself in northern Montana, pursuing my college degree while working hard toward certification in high-risk alpine search and rescue on the side. And perhaps I’ve kept the danger part a secret from my two dads. After all, what they don’t know won’t hurt them…

Everything’s going exactly as planned until my dads send Zach to check on me just as I’m dealing with an ex who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word no. It’s bad enough Zach still thinks of me as a child; now he also thinks I’m incapable of looking out for myself. I need to get him off my back before he finds out I’m not heading to Wyoming for summer break like everyone thinks. I’m going to Glacier National Park to learn how to rappel from helicopters…

Zach

Two years ago I wanted something I couldn’t have, so I threw myself back into my job as an Army Ranger and wound up scarred in more ways than one. When the army dumps my sorry self back into the real world, it’s time to start over. I accept a summer job teaching high-risk search and rescue. On the way there, all I have to do is peek in on little Lucky Reed and make sure he’s okay.

He’s not. Someone has it out for him, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let him get hurt on my watch. My plan is to keep him safe until he heads south for his summer job playing trail guide to tourists. Once he’s gone, I’ll be free to head to Glacier where my biggest challenge will be keeping a handful of alpine search and rescue students safe as they learn how to dangle from helicopters high above the Rocky Mountains.

It’s all fine. Until it’s not. Danger follows us to Glacier, and by the time I finally start seeing Lucky as more than the awkward teenager he used to be, I wonder if it’s too late to convince him that this scarred soldier sees him as anything but little anymore.

FR- Alors alors… alors, depuis le premier tome, j’avais envie d’avoir l’histoire de Lucky même si je dois avouer que son âge me faisait un peu tiquer.

J’aime bien les romances avec des différences d’âge et c’est quelque chose d’assez récurrent dans les romans de Sloane Kennedy mais je dois dire que parfois ça me dérange un peu. Du coup j’attendais de voir comment ça allait se dérouler dans ce roman.

Lucky a 20 ans. Et Zach une trentaine d’année. Donc, j’ai envie de dire, ça passe. J’ai assez vite oublié la différence d’âge (en tout cas la petite quinzaine d’année entre les deux personnages) pour me concentrer sur la relation entre eux.
J’ai énormément aimé la douceur de leur relation. On ressent toute l’intensité de leurs sentiments et j’ai aimé que la relation soit équilibrée malgré le fait que Lucky soit amoureux de Zach depuis aussi longtemps. On sent que Lucky a énormément évolué et qu’il n’est plus l’adolescent énamouré du tome 1. C’est un personnage que j’aime énormément et dont je suis contente de lire enfin l’histoire. Je suis encore plus contente de ce que les auteures nous ont proposés pour lui.

Le personnage de Zach était un moins attachant dans les premiers tomes. C’est un personnage bourru et grincheux (mais on adore ce genre de personnages). Dans ce tome, on en apprend beaucoup plus sur lui et bien évidement il devient super attachant. C’est également un personnage qui a énormément souffert et j’ai beaucoup aimé le traitement du TSPT par les auteurs.
J’ai également beaucoup aimé l’univers proposé dans ce tome. Si cette série est axée sur la nature et les grands espaces, cette fois ci on est plus spécifiquement sur le sauvetage en montagne et c’était vraiment intéressant. On a l’impression d’être avec les personnages à chaque intervention.
J’ai adoré retrouver tous les personnages des tomes précédents. J’aime énormément ce petit groupe. On sent qu’ils sont tous soudés et complices. Une famille de coeur comme on les aime.

ENG– So well well well…. well from the first volume, I wanted to have the story of Lucky even if I have to admit that his age made me a little ticked.

I like romances with age differences and it is something quite recurrent in the novels of Sloane Kennedy but I must say that sometimes it bothers me a little. So I was waiting to see how it was going to unfold in this novel.

Lucky is 20 years old. And Zach, about thirty years old. So, I want to say, it’s okay. I quickly forgot the age difference (at least the short fortnight between the two characters) to focus on the relationship between them.
I really liked the sweetness of their relationship. We feel the intensity of their feelings and I liked that the relationship was balanced despite the fact that Lucky has been in love with Zach for so long. We feel that Lucky has evolved enormously and that he is no longer the enamored teenager of volume 1. He is a character that I love enormously and whose content I am happy to finally read. I am even more happy with what the authors have proposed for him.

The character of Zach was a less endearing in the first volumes. He is a gruff and grumpy character (but we love this kind of character). In this tome, we learn a lot more about him and of course he becomes super engaging. He is also a character who has suffered enormously and I really liked the treatment of PTSD by the authors.
I also really liked the universe proposed in this volume. If this series is focused on nature and the great outdoors, this time we are more specifically on mountain rescue and it was really interesting. One has the impression of being with the characters with each intervention.
I loved finding all the characters from the previous volumes. I really like this little group. We feel that they are all united and accomplices. A family of hearts as we like them.
