A kiss before christmas de A.E. Ryecart

Salut tout le monde, c’est Loïc et aujourd’hui j’ai l’honneur d’ouvrir la saison des romances de Noël avec A kiss before Christmas de A.E. Ryecart. Une histoire toute mignonne, mais qui malheureusement ne sera pas pour moi LA romance de Noël que je retiendrai. Pourtant on avait tous les éléments pour me faire aimer, la thématique de Noël, les faux petits amis, la main tendue pour aider une âme en détresse, etc.

A kiss before Christmas, c’est l’histoire de Jack qui s’apprêtent à fêter les fêtes de fin d’année après que son petit ami l’ait quitté pour son meilleur ami. Bien qu’il était jusqu’à présent un grand fan des fêtes de Noël, celui-ci n’est pas trop dans l’esprit au vu des derniers évènements de sa vie. Pourtant en rentrant d’un pot organisé par son entreprise, il va faire la rencontre d’un jeune sans-abri, Rory qui va chambouler ses croyances et son petit monde.

Comme le laisse présager le résumé, ce livre est rempli de bienveillance. C’est mignon et c’est clairement dans l’esprit de Noël. J’ai bien aimé la rencontre entre les deux personnages et comment en quelques jours ils vont s’apprivoiser. On sait clairement qu’il y a une attirance entre les deux hommes, pour autant ils ne vont pas passer à l’acte directement. J’ai trouvé que c’était un gros point positif. Déjà qu’importe le dénouement, Jack va obligatoirement se retrouver dans une position de “force” face à Rory, alors s’il y avait eu sexe dès le début, je pense que cela m’aurait mis fortement mal à l’aise.

J’ai bien aimé aussi la rencontre avec l’ex de jack qui a fait ressortir un petit côté possessif et “snarky” de Rory et qui a permis de lancer la partie faux petits amis de l’histoire, malheureusement trop courte à mon gout, mais qui aura eu le mérite de nous proposer quelques scènes assez sympathiques.

Dans l’ensemble, a kiss before Christmas offre un bon divertissement à ses lecteurs, malgré quelques faiblesses. J’ai trouvé que les sentiments prenaient trop d’ampleur trop rapidement. Je regrette surtout que l’auteur ait pris le parti de faire de la vie de Rory, une vraie vie de merde. C’était vraiment de trop pour moi. Il était déjà à la rue et sans famille, ce n’était pas la peine de lui en rajouter autant.

Sachant cela, je conseille tout de même cette lecture aux fans de Noël qui voudraient un peu de nouveautés cette année. A kiss before Christmas à quelques défauts et manque d’originalité, mais elle est tout de même un très bon compagnon pour une lecture au coin-de-feu ou au pied de votre sapin.

At kiss before Christmas, it’s Jack’s story that is about to celebrate the end of year holidays after his boyfriend left him for his best friend. Although he was so far a big fan of Christmas, this one is not too much in the spirit considering the last events of his life. Yet returning a pot organized by his company, he is going to meet a young homeless, Rory will shake his beliefs and his little world.

As foreshadowed in the summary, this book is filled with kindness. It’s cute and it’s clearly in the spirit of Christmas. I enjoyed the meeting between the two characters and how in a few days they will tame. We clearly know that there is an attraction between the two men, so far they will not act directly. I thought it was a big plus. No matter what the outcome is, Jack will inevitably find himself in a position of « strength » against Rory, so if there had been sex from the beginning, I think it would have made me feel very uncomfortable.

I also liked the meeting with Jack’s ex who brought out a little possessive and « snarky » side of Rory and that allowed to launch the party false friends of history, unfortunately too short for my taste , but who has had the merit of proposing us some rather nice scenes.

Overall, a kiss before Christmas offers good entertainment to its readers, despite some weaknesses. I found that the feelings were getting too big too quickly and I especially regret that the author took the party to make the life of Rory, a real life shit. It was really too much for me. He was already in the street and without family, it was not worth it to add as much.

Knowing this, I still recommend this reading to Christmas fans who want a little new this year. A kiss before Christmas with some flaws and lack of originality, but it is still a very good companion for a reading at the corner of fire or at the foot of your tree.
