Salut mes P’tits Chats!
When the rookie who ended your rugby career moves in next door.
Retired legend Owen Bosley is used to the quiet life. After a career ending injury eight years ago, Owen leaves it all behind in exchange for a fresh start. Now he’s the landlord of his local pub in a chocolate-box village. The Little Thatch is the heart of the community, but there’s one problem. The pub needs work… expensive renovation work, so to help pay for the repairs, Owen rents out his cottage and moves into the tiny apartment upstairs.
But nothing could prepare him for who would move in.
Pro rugby star Mathias Jones never expected to be signed to the one team whose fans despise him, but some opportunities are too good to pass up. A few months with the Centurions seem like an eternity, but Mathias is determined to see it through. He’s here to play rugby, not make friends.
Seeking refuge in the quiet countryside, Mathias figures he can escape the fallout from his mistakes and the crowds who insist on reminding him. But when he meets his new landlord, it’s clear that running from his past won’t be easy.
For the former rivals, finding common ground on opposite sides of the bar should be easier than on the field. But with Owen overwhelmed by renovations and Matthias fighting to prove himself on the team, the weight of their shared history may be one challenge too big to tackle.
ENG-So well well well…well I really enjoyed this novel.
I tend to enjoy my books set in the UK even more than those set in the US. There’s a particular atmosphere that speaks to me a little more, simply because I live in Europe myself. And that’s exactly what I found in One Last Try.
I really enjoyed Rookie Recovery without knowing whether Lex Easton or Jemma Croft wrote which part.
So I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy Jemma Croft’s writing as much on her own, but that’s clearly what happened. One Last Try is a truly touching story, a story of second chances and following your dreams. It’s a story of community, love, and sharing. And I loved every moment of it.
I loved discovering this little corner of the English countryside.
I’m not a big rugby fan, but I loved everything about this novel. Whether it was the sports aspect or the pub aspect. The community of the small town where the story takes place is funny and endearing. It almost makes you want to spend time there.
The romance between Owen and Matthias is super cute.
I liked that the two men were attracted to each other and that despite their pasts, they gave each other a chance. Matthias’s autism is well handled without taking over, and the romance is truly endearing. The hot scenes were just enough for my taste, and I really had a great time reading it.
In short, a very good romance that’s both sporty and cozy. A must-read.
