J’espère que vous allez bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique d’un roman issu d’une série que j’adore et une fois de plus je l’ai dévoré. Il s’agit du tome 5 (je n’ai pas lu le 4..ouuhhh pas bien) de la série Enlightenment de Joanna Chambers en auto édition. Si les trois premiers tomes sont sur le même couple, ce n’est pas le cas des tomes 4 et 5 qui sont chacun sur un couple différent. Les trois premiers tomes sont d’ailleurs traduits chez Editions Bookmark dans la collection MxM. Résumé :
Eighteen years ago, Henry Asquith, Duke of Avesbury had to leave his kept lover, Kit Redford, in order to devote himself to raising his young family. Now, a lifetime later, his children are moving on and for the first time in years, Henry is alone.
During a rare visit to London, Henry unexpectedly happens upon an old friend of Kit’s and learns that Kit did not receive the financial pay off he was entitled to when Henry left him. Instead Kit was thrown out of his home and left destitute. Horrified, Henry begs Kit to see him and allow Henry to compensate him. But Kit, who now owns a discreet club for gentlemen of a certain persuasion, neither needs nor wants Henry’s money.

Kit thought he had put his old hurts and grievances about Henry behind him, but when he sees Henry again, he discovers that, not only is the old pain still there, so is the fierce attraction that once burned between them. When, in a moment of fury, Kit demands a scandalous form of penance from Henry, no one is more surprised than Kit when Henry agrees to pay it.
As Kit and Henry spend more time together, they learn more about the men they have become, and about the secret feelings and desires they concealed from one another in the past.
Henry realises he wants to build a future with Kit but can he persuade his wary lover to trust him ever again? And can two men from such different worlds make a new life together?
FR- Alors alors… alors, j’avais énormément aimé les 3 premiers tomes. C’est, à mon sens , une des meilleurs séries de romance historique MM. Je ne sais pas pourquoi je n’ai pas lu le tome 4 (mais ça ne devrait plus tarder)
J’ai été très contente de retrouver l’univers de cette série et le petit clin d’oeil à David et Murdo était juste parfait. J’ai vraiment apprécié d’en apprendre un peu plus sur Kit et j’ai trouvé sa relation avec Henry vraiment touchante. C’est un personnage qui m’a beaucoup touchée. Il n’a vraiment pas eu une vie facile mais a réussit à s’en sortir et à mener une vie plus que correcte. J’ai beaucoup aimé sa relation avec Caroline et Peter. J’ai trouvé que cette petite famille de coeur était très touchante et attachante. De plus, ça met en avant le coté gentil et attaché à ses proches de Kit. On le ressent aussi dans son attachement pour son club et ses clients.
Henry est un personnage que j’ai énormément apprécié. Il m’a fait versé ma petite larme à plusieurs moment. On sent que son attachement à Kit est profond. C’est quelqu’un de très loyal et c’est un aspect de son caractère qu’on retrouve tout au long du roman. Par rapport à sa femme d’abord, puis à ses enfants et enfin à Kit.
J’ai aimé que l’histoire se déroule 18 ans après leur première rencontre et qu’ils soient tous les deux mûrs. Ils ont un passé, qui pèse beaucoup dans le genre d’hommes qu’ils sont devenus et j’ai aimé qu’ils se redécouvrent tout en s’avouant rapidement être toujours amoureux l’un de l’autre.
Comme toujours dans les romances historiques, j’aime cette retenue, cette pudeur qui se dégage des personnages. J’ai aussi énormément apprécié les scenes hot qui sont particulièrement bien écrites et en adéquation avec le style du roman.
En résumé, une série à découvrir sans plus tarder si ce n’est pas déjà le cas, sinon un tome aussi bon que les précédents à dévorer de toute urgence.
ENG- I really liked the first 3 volumes. This is, in my opinion, one of the best MM historical romance series. I don’t know why I didn’t read volume 4 (but it shouldn’t be long later)
I was very happy to find the universe of this series and the little nod to David and Murdo was just perfect. I really enjoyed learning more about Kit and found his relationship with Henry really touching. He’s a character that touched me a lot. He really didn’t have an easy life but managed to get out of it and lead a more than decent life. I really enjoyed his relationship with Caroline and Peter. I found this little loving family to be very touching and endearing. In addition, it highlights the kind side and attached to those close to Kit. We can also feel it in his attachment to his club and his clients.
Henry is a character that I really appreciated. He made me shed my little tear several times. We feel that his attachment to Kit runs deep. He’s a very loyal person and it’s an aspect of his character that we find throughout the novel. In relation to his wife first, then to his children and finally to Kit.
I liked that the story takes place 18 years after they first met and that they were both ripe. They have a past, which weighs a lot in the kind of man they have become and I liked that they rediscovered each other while quickly admitting to being still in love with each other.
As always in historical romances, I like this restraint, this modesty that emerges from the characters. I also greatly appreciated the hot scenes which are particularly well written and in keeping with the style of the novel.
In short, a series to discover without further delay if it is not already the case, if not a tome as good as the previous ones to devour urgently.
