Just my Luck de Alice Winters

J’espère que vous allez bien. Pour ma part ça va très bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique du nouveau roman d’une de mes auteures chouchou : Alice Winters. Il s’agit de Just my Luck. Résumé :

When I’m tossed into the trunk of a car, I realize that what little luck I have has finally run out—especially when I find that Tony, the man who’d abducted me, is planning on using me to get back at my father. My chances for escape look pretty bleak when I’m handcuffed to Tony’s bodyguard, an intimidating man named Shepherd who apparently loves tight shirts and seems to be amused by making my life miserable. Soon, though, I learn that Shepherd has a heart and a brain. And sometimes, those two things can be a bigger weapon than anything in a time like this. I just have to learn how to wield them.

After Shepherd gets me away from Tony’s men, I discover that he’s a survivor, a fighter, and the only person who seems willing to help me when it feels like the whole world is against me. At first, I’m not sure if I can trust the man, but the more we get to know each other, the more I realize that he’s funny and kind of sweet. He’s determined to protect me, but he doesn’t know all of my secrets. He doesn’t know that Tony isn’t the only one looking for me. But together, as we face betrayal and taking down the worst monster of all, we’re determined that we will be the lucky ones after all.

FR- Alors alors… alors ces derniers temps, j’avais été un peu moins enthousiasmée par les romans d’Alice Winters. Je n’avais pas retrouvé autant d’humour que dans ses autres séries et ne m’étais pas autant attachée aux personnages. Du coup, j’ai commencé ce roman un peu sur la réserve et je ne savais pas si j’allais rester sur ma moins bonne impression ou revenir à mes premiers amours.

Et finalement, ce roman est entre les deux. Parfaitement entre les deux. J’ai beaucoup aimé les personnages principaux. Que ce soit Killian ou Shepherd . Ce sont des personnages très inintéressants et intrigants et jusqu’à assez loin dans le roman, je ne savais pas trop à quoi m’attendre. On soupçonne quelque chose d’assez sombre sur Killian pendant longtemps tout en espérant qu’il n’en soit rien.

Shepherd n’a pas eu la vie facile, même si l’auteure ne appesantit pas sur le sujet, ni vraiment sur le passé de Killian. On a plusieurs bribes pour ce dernier, d’autant plus que l’histoire est exclusivement de son point de vue , mais sans vraiment tout savoir. Mais au final, ce n’est pas le plus important dans l’histoire.

J’ai retrouvé les éléments « habituels » dans les romans d’Alice Winters : deux personnages qui se taquinent en permanence, un personnage très fort, viril, alpha mais avec des blessures, un personnage plus faible en apparence mais pas tant que ça avec énormément d’humour et bien sur, un animal, ici Bear.

Comme souvent, on passe un bon moment avec ce roman. Les traits d’humour sont présents et vraiment bons. Les scènes de sexe sont sympa et bien dosées et les scènes d’action vraiment chouettes.

Les événements s’enchaînent avec brio et l’intrigue est vraiment prenante.

En résumé pas le meilleur roman de l’auteure mais pour moi , un roman qui se rapproche un peu plus des premiers sans toute fois les égaler. Une auteure à suivre toujours cependant.

ENG- So well well well… well lately i had been a little less enthusiastic about the novels of Alice Winters. I hadn’t found as much humor as in his other series and hadn’t gotten as attached to the characters. Suddenly, I started this novel a little on the reserve and I did not know if I was going to stay on my worse impression or return to my first love.

And finally, this novel is in between. Perfectly in between. I really liked the main characters. Whether it’s Killian or Shepherd. They are very uninteresting and intriguing characters and until far enough in the novel, I was not sure what to expect. We suspect something rather dark about Killian for a long time while hoping that it will not be.

Shepherd has not had an easy life, even if the author does not dwell on the subject, nor really on the past of Killian. We have several snatches for the latter, especially since the story is exclusively from his point of view, but without really knowing everything. But in the end, it is not the most important in history.

I found the « usual » elements in the novels of Alice Winters: two characters who tease constantly, a very strong character, manly, alpha but with injuries, a character weaker in appearance but not that much with a lot of humor and of course, an animal, here Bear.

As often, we have a good time with this novel. The humor is present and really good. The sex scenes are nice and well proportioned and the action scenes really cool.

The events follow one another brilliantly and the intrigue is really captivating.

In summary not the best novel of the author but for me, a novel that is a little closer to the first without however equaling them. An author to follow always however.
