Quinn's Gambit (Aura #1) de Bellora Quinn et Angel Martinez

J’espère que vous allez bien. Pour ma part ça va plutôt bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique du premier tome d’une série d’Urban Fantasy, plutot pas récente car le tome 4 vient tout juste de sortir. N’ayant pas lu les tomes précédents, j’ai demandé d’attaquer par le début. Il s’agit de Quinn’s Gambit de la série Aura de Bellora Quinn et Angel Martinez. Résumé:

An unregistered human con wizard and a duty-bound, straight-laced elf cop. As New York explodes with dangerous creatures, their passion goes nuclear.

After a terrible magical accident at Berkeley created unpredictable holes between realities, all manner of non-human creatures started popping into our world. These displacements, called Random Anomalous Reality Events or RARE, have taken magic out of fiction and relocated it firmly in reality, resulting in a great deal of chaos and confusion. Displaced elf Valerian works with AURA, the Agency of Unnatural Resettlement and Assimilation, to intercept these beings as they appear in the human world, helping the peaceful ones and subduing the violent, malevolent ones. It’s good, satisfying work, and Val would be happy if he wasn’t so lonely.

Quinten is a young mage just trying to get by, but New York isn’t the easiest city to make a living in. If his methods are sometimes morally dubious, his heart is still in the right place. Of course, for Quinn, the right place means firmly locked away, protected at all costs. Living by his wits and sometimes magically induced luck, he works as a ‘freelance magic user’, or unregistered mage and small-time con, according to the authorities. The last thing Quinn wants is to draw the cops’ attention, but when an Event happens right on top of him, he’s forced to turn to AURA for help. Valerian isn’t at all what he’d expected in an AURA cop, and he certainly wasn’t expecting to join forces with the sexy elf, a snarky drow and a bitter incubus, when certain individuals in power try to stop the RARE by any means necessary.

Things are not all what they seem at AURA headquarters, and a greater evil lurks at the top than anyone could have imagined.

FR- Alors alors… alors j’étais intriguée par cette série étant donné que les séries d’Urban Fantasy sont assez rares en MM (si on oublie les romans avec des shifters) et j’ai donc décidé de commencer avec le tome 1.

Chaque tome est un tome compagnon mais le premier à pour intérêt de poser le contexte et de nous présenter les personnages. J’ai beaucoup aimé ma lecture. J’ai passé un très agréable moment et j’ai beaucoup aimé les personnages.

L’univers était vraiment original. J’ai beaucoup aimé ce que les auteurs nous proposent. C’était le premier roman de ces auteurs que je lisais et j’ai été séduite par la plume des auteurs.
L’univers est parfaitement maitrisé, j’ai beaucoup aimé que la plupart des créatures ne soient pas celles qu’on croise habituellement en Urban Fantasy et que les auteurs nous les décrivent aussi bien.

J’ai bien aimé les personnages principaux. J’ai trouvé leur relation vraiment touchante et j’ai aimé les différences entre les deux personnages. J’ai aimé découvrir leurs forces et leurs faiblesses et voir qu’ensemble ils vont réussir à se rendre meilleur.

La plume des auteurs est vraiment entrainante est les pages s’enchainent sans qu’on s’en rendent compte. J’ai trouvé l’intrigue très intéressante. Le rythme de l’action est bien mesuré et j’ai beaucoup aimé les scènes de batailles qui sont très bien décrites.

Il y a un tout petit peu trop de scène de sexe à mon gout même si elles apportent à la relation entre Quinn et Val.

Les personnages secondaires sont intriguant et attachants et donnent envie de lire la suite de la série.

En résumé, une série d’Urban Fantasy très bien menée, un premier tome qui donne envie de lire la suite!

ENG- So well well well… well I was intrigued by this series since Urban Fantasy series are quite rare in MM (if we forget the novels with shifters) and so I decided to start with volume 1.

Each volume is a companion volume but the first has the interest of setting the context and introducing us to the characters. I enjoyed my reading very much. I had a great time and really liked the characters.

The universe was really original. I really liked what the authors offer us. It was the first novel of these authors that I read and I was seduced by the pen of the authors.
The universe is perfectly mastered, I really liked that most of the creatures are not the ones we usually come across in Urban Fantasy and that the authors describe them to us as well.

I really liked the main characters. I found their relationship really touching and I liked the differences between the two characters. I liked discovering their strengths and weaknesses and seeing that together they will succeed in making themselves better.

The pen of the authors is really catchy is the pages follow one another without realizing it. I found the plot very interesting. The rhythm of the action is well measured and I really liked the battle scenes which are very well described.

There are a little too many sex scenes for my taste even if they add to the relationship between Quinn and Val.

The secondary characters are intriguing and endearing and make you want to read the rest of the series.

In summary, a very well done series of Urban Fantasy, a first volume that makes you want to read more!
