J’espère que vous allez bien! Pour ma part ça va plutôt bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour la chronique du troisième tome de la série The Vers Podcast de Riley Hart en auto édition. J’avais beaucoup aimé les deux premiers tomes et j’avais hâte d’avoir l’histoire de Marcus et Kai. Résumé :

To listeners of The Vers, a queer podcast I host with my three best friends, I’m known as The Realist—I accept life the way it is, believe in honesty over sugarcoating, and okay, I can maybe be a little bossy.

If you asked The Vers guys, they’d tell you I’m a caretaker who’s always thinking of others, but they also give over-the-top hugs and don’t believe me when I say feelings are the worst.

It’s why I have no business offering Kai Lewis a place to stay when he’s in need. He’s a flirt who makes no secret about wanting in my bed…somewhere I’d like to have him if he wasn’t the employee of one of my closest friends. But he’s too trusting and leaps before he thinks, so at least he won’t get taken advantage of if he’s with me.

Now he’s always around, wearing shorts that leave nothing to the imagination and saying he wants to take care of me because I’m always doing it for others. It’s not long before I can’t resist him—a man who likes listening in the bedroom but is stubborn in other situations.

Kai is sweet and funny and gets me to open up to him. Maybe this whole relationship thing wouldn’t be so bad…if he wasn’t nine years younger…and leaving Southern California soon…or if I had any idea what I was doing.

FR- Alors alors…. alors j’avais énormément aimé les deux premiers tomes de cette série et j’avais hâte de découvrir l’histoire de Marcus. Si au départ je trouvais un peu dommage que l’auteure ait décidé de mettre ensemble les deux personnages noirs de sa série, mais au fil de ma lecture j’ai vraiment apprécié le parti prit de l’auteure. Certaines phrases m’ont fait carrément halluciner et réaliser qu’en tant que femme blanche, je vis une existence relativement protégée. Je n’avais vraiment pas idée de certains automatismes pour les hommes de couleur notamment aux Etats Unis. J’ai trouvé bien, au final que les deux personnages soient noirs car ils ont quand même une expérience différente ce qui est vraiment intéressant.

Au delà de ce point qui est quand même un point central du roman, j’ai adoré lire l’histoire de Marcus. C’est vraiment le pilier de ce groupe d’amis, celui qui est toujours là pour les autres et qui fait tout ce qui est en son pouvoir pour aider ceux qu’il considère comme sa famille. J’ai beaucoup aimé sa relation avec Corbin (dont j’ai hâte d’avoir l’histoire dans le prochain tome.) J’avais déjà beaucoup aimé la relation entre Declan et Parker qui était bien présente dans les deux premiers tomes et je suis contente d’avoir droit à l’histoire de l’amitié entre Corbin et Marcus. On sent qu’ils sont très importants l’un pour l’autre et que leur relation est très fusionnelle. Et j’ai adoré que ça ne soit pas un sujet pour Kai, même lorsqu’il se met en couple avec Marcus.

Marcus évolue énormément pendant tout le roman, il s’ouvre progressivement à Kai et prend conscience de certains blocages qu’il pouvait avoir du fait de son éducation et de sa relation avec ses parents. Il m’a vraiment émue plusieurs fois dans ma lecture.

Face à lui, Kai semble solaire et joyeux, il flirte avec tout ce qui bouge et semble à l’aise dans ses basket. Pour autant, il cache beaucoup d’incertitudes et de doutes qu’il va doucement mais surement, surmonter au contact de Marcus. J’ai beaucoup aimé sa relation avec les membres de sa famille et celle qu’il va développer avec Marcus avant même qu’ils ne se mettent en couple.

Comme c’était le cas dans les deux premiers tomes, l’auteure aborde des sujets totalement différents d’un tome à l’autre et le fait de façon très pudique et juste. Les relations familiales, que ce soit les familles de sang ou la famille de coeur qu’est le groupe des 4 personnages principaux. J’ai adoré retrouver les personnages des tomes précédents et voir aussi que les pièces rapportées forment un vrai groupe.

Encore une fois, l’auteure nous tease le prochain tome et la relation à venir pour Corbin et j’ai super hâte à ce quatrième et dernier tome.

ENG- So well well well… well I really liked the first two books of this series and I was eager to discover Marcus’ story. If at first I found a bit of pity that the author decided to put together the two black characters in her series, but as I read I really appreciated her decision. Some sentences made me downright hallucinate and realize that as a white woman, I live a relatively protected existence. I really had no idea of certain automatisms for men of color, especially in the United States. I thought it was good, in the end, that the two characters were black because they still have a different experience which is really interesting.

Beyond this point which is still a central point of the novel, I loved reading Marcus’story. He is truly the heart of this group of friends, the one who is always there for others and does everything in his power to help those he considers his family. I really liked his relationship with Corbin (whose story I can’t wait to see in next book.) I had already really liked the relationship between Declan and Parker which was very present in the first two books and I am glad to be entitled to the story of the friendship between Corbin and Marcus. We feel that they are very important to each other and that their relationship is very close. And I loved that it wasn’t a subject for Kai, even when he was in a relationship with Marcus.

Marcus evolves enormously throughout the novel, he gradually opens up to Kai and becomes aware of certain blockages that he could have had because of his education and his relationship with his parents. It really moved me several times in my reading.

Facing him, Kai seems sunny and happy, he flirts with everyone and seems comfortable in his shooes. However, he hides a lot of uncertainties and doubts that he will slowly but surely overcome in contact with Marcus. I really liked his relationship with his family members and the one he will develop with Marcus even before they get together.

As was the case in the first two books, the author addresses totally different subjects from one volume to another and does so in a very modest and fair way. Family relationships, whether blood families or heart family that is the group of 4 main characters. I loved finding the characters from the previous books and also seeing that the patches form a real group.

Once again, the author teases us with the next volume and the relationship to come for Corbin and I can’t wait for this fourth and final volume.
