Salut mes P’tits Chats!

Tangled are the promises given from the heart.

When the Council of Witches demands Bran Gallagher cast aside his dying coven and join a new one, he flees to the Otherworld with the man he loves to escape his sentencing.

Cillian Dunne returns to the Otherworld as the long-thought-dead Winter Prince, his past still lost to him in his mind. To win back the Winter Court stolen from him, Cillian must seek allies in the Fae who judged him guilty of associating with witches long ago.

Among the Fae, who are his sworn enemy, Bran will do and become anything to stay by his lover’s side, even if it means wearing Cillian’s collar and being seen as his pet.

Journeying with Bran to the Autumn Court, Cillian rejoins Fae high society during the Midsummer Festival. Little do they know the pitfalls that await, including an adversarial King Lugh, who wants Bran for his personal entertainment.

Cillian will do whatever it takes to keep Bran safe. Navigating a dance of long-forgotten manners and insidious words, he strikes an unbreakable bargain with Lugh that sets the clock ticking for Cillian to prove his innocence.

But as a threat to the Autumn Court creeps ever closer, the stakes become impossibly high. In the end, Cillian must choose between keeping his bargain and his life…or lose forever the witch who owns his heart.

ENG-So, so… so,where do I even begin?

I was really looking forward to diving back into Hailey Turner’s writing and discovering the next part of this story! I really enjoyed the first book, Bright Dead Things, which reminded me of everything I love about this author: well-developed characters, powerful emotions, and a carefully crafted fantasy world. But with Twisted Iron Marks, I can honestly say I enjoyed this book even more!

A Story That Takes an Interesting Turn

I enjoyed the way the first book laid the foundations of the world and gradually introduced its unique elements, particularly its inspiration from Celtic folklore, especially Irish folklore.

In this second book, the story takes a really interesting turn. You can feel the plot evolving as we move into a new stage of the story. I really enjoyed the direction the author chose to take and the way she develops the narrative.

That is also one of the things I particularly loved about this book: Hailey Turner manages to make me want to know more while still surprising me with her choices. By the time I finished, I was already eager to find out what happens next, which is always a good sign!

Characters Who Are Put Through the Wringer

If there is one thing we can say about Hailey Turner, it is that she certainly doesn’t go easy on her characters!

I really enjoy the way she develops them and the powerful emotions she manages to bring to the surface. Her characters aren’t simply there to move the plot forward; what they go through and the choices they have to make are an essential part of what makes the story so compelling.

Some of the choices the author makes in this second book particularly stood out to me. She isn’t afraid to put her characters through difficult situations and push them to their limits. This is far from a story where everything goes smoothly, and that is also what makes it such an engaging read.

I really appreciated this development, even if it wasn’t always easy to read!

A Much Darker Series

This is probably one of the aspects that struck me the most in this book: this series is clearly darker than Hailey Turner’s previous novels, and that becomes even more apparent here.

Some scenes made me feel almost uncomfortable. This isn’t necessarily the kind of thing I usually look for in my reads, but I thought the way the author handled these moments was really well done.

I never felt that these scenes were there simply for shock value. They fit into a story that is taking a darker turn and contribute to its increasingly bleak atmosphere. Even when certain passages made me uncomfortable, I could still appreciate the way they were written and handled.

This is another side of Hailey Turner’s writing that I’m getting to discover through this series, and I’m curious to see just how far she will take us.

A Sequel I Enjoyed Even More

Overall, I enjoyed Twisted Iron Marks much more than the first book. I loved seeing the story take a new direction, finding all the qualities I appreciate in Hailey Turner’s writing, and discovering a plot that continues to gain intensity.

This book also confirmed that the author knows how to surprise me, even when I think I know what to expect. And now, there’s only one thing I want: to read the next book!

In conclusion, Twisted Iron Marks is a sequel I enjoyed even more than its predecessor, and I am now eagerly looking forward to book three!
