Unraveling the Threads of Fate de Alice Winters

Comment allez vous? Pour ma part ça va plutot bien. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui avec la sortie du jour: il s’agit du dernier roman d’Alice Winters intitulé Unraveling the Threads of Fate. Il s’agit d’un stand alone sur la légende asiatique des fils du destins. Résumé :

FR- Alors alors… alors j’aime beaucoup la légende asiatique des fils du destin et comme j’aime énormément la plume d’Alice Winters, j’avais hâte de commencer ce roman. Je tiens d’ailleurs à remercier l’auteure pour ce SP.

J’ai bien entendu beaucoup aimé ce roman. Ca faisait un moment que l’auteure ne nous avait pas proposé de stand alone et je dois dire que j’ai beaucoup aimé ce format. Bien entendu, si Alice Winters décide d’écrire une suite je serai tout aussi ravie de la lire mais ce roman se suffit à lui même et à une vraie fin.

L’univers présenté est plutôt sympa. Il s’agit de notre univers actuel sauf que certaines personnes ont des dons. Ils sont testés, répertoriés et classés mais ça s’arrete à peu près là. Il n’est pas vraiment fait état des différents dons qui existent ni d’où ils viennent mais tout le monde est au courant que certaines personnes en ont et d’autres pas.

L’histoire est divisée entre aujourd’hui et avant. Les chapitres « Avant » s’intercalent avec l’histoire actuelle et nous permettent de comprendre ce qu’il s’est passé entre Alex et Bishop dans le passé et aident à mettre en place l’intrigue.

J’ai vraiment passé un bon moment de lecture. J’ai aimé suivre Alex et Bishop dans leurs enquêtes pour sauver leurs proches. J’ai trouvé que ce roman mêlait quelques éléments des précédents romans de l’auteure (le coté voyager dans les « rêves » de la série In the Mind et le coté essayer de sauver les gens avant que leur mort n’arrive de sa série Medium Trouble) tout en nous livrant un nouvel univers.

Les personnages son très attachants et j’ai beaucoup aimé la relation entre Alex et Bishop qui au final se fait très simplement, c’est bien aussi quand il n’y a pas de drama inutiles. L’humour est aussi un peu moins présent que dans ses romans précédents mais on passe quand même un très très bon moment et rien n’est poussif ou too much.

En résumé un roman plutôt sympa d’une auteure que j’aime toujours autant, j’ai l’impression qu’elle a légèrement mis en retrait ses traits habituels (de l’humour à outrance, des personnages plutôt clichés) et ça passe plus que bien!

ENG- So well well well… well I really like the Asian legend of the threads of fate and as I really like the pen of Alice Winters, I was eager to start this novel. I would also like to thank the author for this SP.

Of course, I really liked this novel. It’s been a while since the author offered us a stand alone and I must say that I really liked this format. Of course, if Alice Winters decides to write a sequel I will be just as happy to read it, but this novel is self-sufficient and has a real end.

The universe presented is rather nice. This is our current universe except that some people have gifts. They are tested, listed and classified, but that’s about it. There isn’t much mention of the different gifts that exist or where they come from but everyone is aware that some people have them and some don’t.

History is divided between today and before. The « Before » chapters intersperse with the current story and allow us to understand what happened between Alex and Bishop in the past and help set up the plot.

I really had a good time reading. I liked following Alex and Bishop in their investigations to save their loved ones. I found that this novel mixed some elements of the author’s previous novels (the part of traveling in the « dreams » of the In the Mind series and the part of trying to save people before their death happens from her series Medium Trouble) while giving us a new universe.

The characters are very endearing and I really liked the relationship between Alex and Bishop which in the end is very simple, it’s also good when there is no unnecessary drama. The humor is also a little less present than in his previous novels but we still have a very, very good time and nothing is winded or too much.

In summary, a rather nice novel by an author that I still love so much, I have the impression that she has slightly set back her usual traits (excessive humor, rather clichéd characters) and that’s okay more than good!
