The Last Kiss de Sally Malcolm

J’espère que vous allez bien. Au moment où j’écris ces lignes, nous entamons la deuxieme semaine du confinement. On suppose tous qu’il sera prolongé et on prend notre mal en patience, bien accompagnée de livres pour ma part. Je vous retrouve aujourd’hui pour un roman historique sur une période que je n’ai pas l’habitude de lire : la 1ere Guerre Mondiale. Il s’agit du roman The Last Kiss de Sally Malcolm, en auto édition. Sans plus attendre, résumé :

FR- Alors alors… alors comme je le disais en introduction, je lis très peu de livre sur la guerre en général et sur la 1ere Guerre Mondiale en particulier. C’était il y a 100 ans, dans mon pays et les pays frontaliers et j’ai du mal à me détacher des scenes que le lis dans ce genre de romans. Mais je ne sais pas pourquoi, celui ci m’a tout de suite tentée.

Heureusement pour moi, seuls les premiers chapitres se passent pendant la guerre et on passe ensuite rapidement en 1919 et 1920.

J’ai énormément aimé ce roman. La plume de l’auteure, dont c’était le premier roman que je lisais, est vraiment très entraînante et on s’attache très rapidement aux deux personnages principaux.

J’ai énormément aimé les problèmes soulevés dans ce roman. L’auteure, avec beaucoup de pudeur, aborde des thèmes comme le SSPT, les inégalités sociales, les droits des femmes. On oublie souvent les tourments liés à cette période et les chamboulements que cela a créée dans la vie des soldats mais également des femmes restées en arrière qui ont du également prendre part à l’effort de guerre.

De ce point de vue, j’ai énormément aimé le personnage d’Olive et j’ai aimé l’amitié qui va naître entre elle et Ash.

La relation entre Ash et Harry est très belle. Toute en pudeur et en douceur, ils vont s’ouvrir l’un à l’autre et devenir plus fort. Chacun avec ses préoccupations, propre à leur classe sociale, avec leur parcours de vie et leurs blessures. Ils vont s’apporter énormément au fil des pages et la fin de ce roman est tout simplement parfaite.

En résumé, une très bonne romance historique sur une période charnière pour notre histoire à plusieurs niveaux. Des personnages touchants et attachants, une romance qui aborde des thèmes sérieux de manière maîtrisée. Un roman à lire sans plus tarder.

It was 100 years ago, in my country and the neighboring countries and I find it hard to detach myself from the scenes that he read in this kind of novels. But I don’t know why, this one immediately tempted me.

Fortunately for me, only the first chapters take place during the war and we quickly pass in 1919 and 1920.

I really liked this novel. The author’s pen, which was the first novel I read, is really catchy and we quickly get attached to the two main characters.

I really liked the problems raised in this novel. The author, with a lot of modesty, tackles themes like PTSD, social inequalities, women’s rights. We often forget the torments linked to this period and the upheavals that this created in the lives of soldiers but also of women who remained behind who also had to take part in the war effort.

From this point of view, I really liked the character of Olive and I liked the friendship that will be born between her and Ash.

The relationship between Ash and Harry is very beautiful. All in modesty and softness, they will open up to each other and become stronger. Each with their concerns, specific to their social class, with their life course and their injuries. They will contribute enormously over the pages and the end of this novel is simply perfect.

In summary, a very good historical romance over a pivotal period for our history on several levels. Touching and endearing characters, a romance that tackles serious themes in a controlled manner. A novel to read without further delay.
